Travel essentials, customs, and country details for a smooth arrival in Nicaragua.
TRAVEL
Have $10 USD in cash per person ready for the Nicaragua customs entry fee on arrival. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond travel dates, and carry a printed copy as a backup.
Cash is essential at the airport for the entry fee and tips. Bring small USD bills for incidentals, gratuities, and local purchases throughout the trip. Mukul can exchange small amounts to local currency (Córdoba) if needed.
Expect hot, tropical weather with high humidity. Pack high-SPF sunblock (40+), a sun hat, and stay hydrated — sun exposure is intense even on overcast days.
ARRIVALS
We have arranged comfortable coach buses to bring you from Managua Airport (MGA) directly to Mukul. Our drivers will be waiting in the outside arrivals area holding a MUKUL sign — easy to spot, no guesswork.
Shared Coach Transfers
Coach buses will be running throughout the day to pick up arriving guests. You will be grouped with others arriving at a similar time and will travel together to Mukul. No need to coordinate — we will match you automatically.
Journey to Mukul
The scenic drive from Managua to Mukul Resort takes approximately 2.5 hours. You will pass through beautiful Nicaraguan countryside before arriving on the Emerald Coast.
Please share your flight details with us as soon as possible so we can coordinate your arrival and departure seamlessly.
THE COUNTRY
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, known for its Pacific coastline, volcanoes, and colonial towns. Mukul sits on the Emerald Coast in Guacalito de la Isla, in the Rivas region — about a 2.5-hour drive from Managua Airport.
Spanish is the official language; English is widely spoken at the resort. The local currency is the Córdoba (NIO), but USD is widely accepted, especially in tourist areas.
Nicaragua is on Central Standard Time (CST, UTC-6) year-round — no daylight saving. Outlets are Type A/B at 120V, same as the US, so most US devices work without an adapter.
Mukul offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the resort. International roaming works but can be costly — consider an eSIM or local SIM if you'll be off-property frequently.
IMPORTANT
Drones are NOT permitted into Nicaragua. They will be confiscated at customs. Please leave them at home.
Bring all prescription and over-the-counter medications in their original packaging with clear labels. Carry a copy of your prescriptions for any controlled substances.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates and have at least one blank page for entry stamps. US, EU, and most Latin American citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days.
Standard restrictions apply — no firearms, illegal substances, or large quantities of fresh produce, meat, or dairy. Declare any cash over $10,000 USD on entry.
EXTEND YOUR TRIP
Consider arriving a day or two early to unwind in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua's lively surf town. Enjoy beachfront dining, sunset catamaran cruises, and the relaxed Pacific vibe before joining the group at Mukul.
Extend your trip with a night or two in Granada, one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. Stroll colorful streets, explore cathedrals, and take a boat tour of the isletas on Lake Nicaragua.
For culture lovers, a guided city tour of Managua paired with visits to the Masaya Volcano and the artisan villages of the Pueblos Blancos offers a rich snapshot of Nicaraguan heritage, crafts, and landscapes.
If you are interested in extending your stay before or after the retreat, please reach out to us at Fifty@torres.us and we will be happy to assist with recommendations and arrangements.
